Riot Kayaks Press Release Tibet "Roof of the World"

In 2002 Riot paddler Gerry Moffatt concluded a lifetime of river exploration in Nepal with a descent of the upper Arun Gorges , draining the northeastern flanks of Mt.Everest. In doing so he become the first man to have paddled all 14 major drainage's in the Nepalese Himalayas. This year the veteran expedition paddler, and National Geographic expedition leader embarked on a 2 month white water pilgrimage to Tibet.

"I'd always dreamed of paddling in Tibet, so when the opportunity for a first descent came along I jumped at the chance.

First stop on the expedition was the first descent of the Pelung Tsanpo. The team started at 4000m and paddled over 200km of intense white water.

"Paddling at altitude is always a challenge, the extreme cold and lack of O2 add that extra degree of difficultly to the task at hand. The river started about1500cfs and finished at around 25,000cfs. It was a battle."

Based between Sun Valley Idaho, and Kathmandu the 40 year old Scottish Riot paddler is regarded by his piers as the most experienced guide in the Himalayas. White Water Consultant to the Kingdom of Nepal, and founder of Nepal's International River Guide School Gerry has descended an estimated30,000 km of WW in the Himalayas, and has over a dozen major first descents under his kilt throughout Nepal, Pakistan, India, Sikkim, Bhutan and now Tibet.

Next stop on the expedition was a grueling journey across the Himalayas to paddle the first descent of the Chama Chu. Moffatt has been paddling the new, "Riot Magnum" throughout his Tibetan adventure.

"The Magnum is the perfect boat for this water. I've been on the surface with the type of maneuverability you really need. It's been a bomb proof machine up here on the roof of the world."

His latest documentary, "The Last River" has just aired in the UK on National Geographic's adventure channel and is due to be released in the US later this year. Gerry is currently en route to the Himalayas with expeditions planned in India, Nepal and Bhutan.
